Your privacy

Privacy Policy

We collect as little personal information as possible, and we are transparent about where it goes.

Last updated: May 2026

Who we are

What Atlanta Gives is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Atlanta, Georgia. This policy describes how our website handles personal information. If you have questions, contact us at info@whatatlantagives.org.

What we collect

  • Donation details. When you donate, Stripe collects your name, email, billing address, and payment details on its own secure checkout page. Card details never touch our servers. We receive the donation amount, frequency (one-time, monthly, yearly), and whether you opted to cover processing fees.
  • Dedication details. If you choose to dedicate a donation in memory or honor of someone, the name you enter is stored with the donation record so we can acknowledge it.
  • Contact form messages. Our contact form posts your message to Formspree, which forwards it to our inbox at info@whatatlantagives.org. Our event-notification form (registration-opens-soon email capture) uses a separate Formspree form; see below.
  • IP address. Our donation endpoint briefly uses your IP address in memory to rate-limit checkout requests and reduce abuse. It is not stored long term by this site.
  • Preferences. If you tick the anonymity or email-updates checkbox on the donation form, that preference is stored alongside the donation record.

Cookies and analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors use the site, with IP anonymization enabled. Google Analytics relies on cookies, and we only load it after you explicitly accept the cookie banner shown on your first visit. If you decline, Google Analytics is not loaded and no analytics cookies are set. Your choice is saved locally in your browser so the banner does not reappear. You can clear your browser’s site data for this domain to reset the choice. See policies.google.com/privacy.

What we do not collect

We do not use third-party advertising trackers or behavioral retargeting. We do not sell or rent personal information to anyone. We do not store credit card numbers, CVCs, or bank account details. Stripe handles all of that.

Who processes your data

  • Stripe — payment processing. See stripe.com/privacy.
  • Formspree — form delivery for both our main contact form and the events page “notify me” capture. Each uses a separate form id. See formspree.io/legal/privacy-policy.
  • CARTO — map tile provider for the interactive partner map on our Contact page. When that map loads, CARTO receives your IP address and standard browser request info as part of serving the tile images. See carto.com/privacy.
  • OpenStreetMap — the underlying map data shown on our Contact page (rendered through CARTO). If a fallback tile or attribution asset is fetched directly from OSM, OpenStreetMap receives your IP and standard request info. See osmfoundation.org/wiki/Privacy_Policy.
  • Google Maps — embedded venue map on our Events page. When that section loads, Google receives your IP address and standard browser request info from the embed. See policies.google.com/privacy.
  • Google Analytics, loaded only after you accept the cookie banner. Anonymized IP plus standard browser and page-view info. See policies.google.com/privacy.
  • Vercel — website hosting. Server logs may briefly include request metadata such as IP and user agent.

How long we keep information

  • Donation and financial records are retained for approximately seven years, to meet IRS recordkeeping and tax-substantiation requirements and to allow us to re-issue donor tax receipts on request.
  • Contact form messages are kept only as long as needed to respond and for reasonable follow-up, then deleted.
  • IP addresses are used only transiently for rate-limiting and abuse prevention on our donation endpoint. They are held briefly in memory — not stored in a database or retained long term.

Your rights

You can ask us to:

  • tell you what personal information we have about you;
  • correct information that is wrong;
  • delete information we hold about you, except where we are required to keep it for legal, accounting, or tax reasons;
  • stop using your information for any purpose that is not strictly required to process or record your donation.

Email info@whatatlantagives.org and we will respond within a reasonable time.

Children

Our resource pages are open to anyone who needs them, including young people in crisis. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 through forms on this site. If you believe a child has submitted personal information, contact us and we will remove it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the “Last updated” date above.
